8x8, Inc. offers voice, video and mobile IP communications solutions for business and residential customers.

8x8, Inc.  was originally founded in 1987 as Integrated Information Technology, Inc., better known as IIT. IIT was founded by Dr. Chi-Shin Wang and Dr. Y.W. Sing, both formerly of Weitek.

In 1992 the company began shipping a lossless data compression product called Xtradrive.

November 2002.  8x8 entered the VoIP  market as a service provider, offering residential Internet phone service under the "Packet 8" brand name. 

In 2008, 8x8 is the second largest standalone U.S. VoIP service provider (behind Vonage) with more than 100,000 residential customers, and more than 10,000 businesses and enterprises who use the company's Packet8 Virtual Office services for their business telecommunications needs.

The 8x8 Virtual Office solution, 8x8's flagship offering currently in use by over 15,000 companies, eliminates the need for costly, on-premise business phone systems by delivering all telephony services over managed or unmanaged Internet connections.

Today, all the Packet8 products and services are being consolidated under the company’s corporate name 8x8, Inc.
